Negative Effects of Improper Waste Management
The negative effects of improper waste management not only make you look unpleasant, but also affect the country’s economy as a whole. The state must spend a lot of money to counter the consequences of improper waste management. In addition, environment-dependent animals face significant threats due to oil spills and the leaching of chemicals that directly pollute soil and water. Burning waste and discarded plastic materials can lead to air and environmental pollution.
Below are some of the catastrophic consequences of today's inadequate waste management system:
Soil Pollution:
Pollution is caused by spilling and burying dangerous components in the soil. Therefore, attention should be paid to how petroleum hydrocarbons, solvents, pesticides, heavy metals, and lead are treated.
Water Pollution:
Rain easily mixes with toxic liquids and penetrates streams to reach nearby bodies of water. Therefore, fountains, ponds, lakes and even drinking faucets in the area are at risk of pollution.
Extreme weather due to climate change:
First, harmful greenhouse gases are produced by the decomposition of waste. It rises in the atmosphere and traps heat. This causes the negative effects of extreme weather in the form of storms and typhoons.
Air Pollution:
When paper or plastic is burned in a landfill, gas in the landfill is generated, and the released chemicals accumulate and contribute to the ozone layer, harming the surrounding population. Also add methane gas. Also, for chemicals like dioxins, air has been shown to have a detrimental effect on us.
Damage to animals and marine life:
Despite strict measures to stop it, we keep seeing the continual dumping of garbage, raw or untreated sewage. Any animal or marine life coming in contact gets impacted in the worst of ways. The inevitable formation of algal bloom and clusters contaminates and eventually suffocates marine life such as coral and fish.
Human Damage:
Think about a landfill fire and its consequences. Whether it comes from the air or accumulates in warehouses, these landfill gases cause cancer, breathing and visibility problems, and can explosions always endanger local people.
